Fate War hero synergies
Why some pairs are far stronger than their heroes alone, every verified synergy with its in-game reason, and the mistakes that switch skills off.
Updated 2026-10-15 for game version 1.2.60.
Five rules for a strong pair
- Match the troop type. Aska's +35% ATK only affects Cavalry and Karl's +20% ATK only Berserkers. A troop-type hero in the wrong troop loses their headline bonus.
- Keep the troop pure when a skill asks. Odysseus's Armor Piercer and Morgan le Fay's Dark Power need only Axe Throwers; Iris's Ward of Nature needs only Beast Riders.
- Stack different multipliers. DEF reduction, ATK bonuses and damage bonuses multiply each other, while two bonuses of the same kind only add. Odysseus (DEF ignore) + Kalthas (DEF shred plus ATK) beats two heroes who both give ATK.
- Use coded pairs. Some skills name a partner. These are the strongest synergies in the game.
- Cover the weak spot. Kalthas deals 70% less normal-attack damage for the first 5 seconds of a fight, and Vista's Calm Before the Storm cuts damage taken in exactly that window.
Every verified synergy
Odysseus + Joan 100/100 Axe Thrower + Balanced
Joan raises a male commander's Burst by up to 35% and her troop's ATK by 30%. Odysseus has the largest Burst (18,000 awakened) and ignores 50% DEF with an all-Axe troop, so every multiplier lands on the biggest hit. Needs Joan at 4 stars.
Wukong + Aska 95/100 Cavalry + Cavalry
Aska's +35% Cavalry ATK and Guards on top of Wukong's +35% Cavalry HP, debuff immunity and clones.
Odysseus + Kalthas 89/100 Axe Thrower + Axe Thrower
Armor Piercer ignores 50% DEF and Breaker's Mark cuts what is left. Odysseus must command: Armor Piercer only works for the troop he leads.
Kalthas + Vista 84/100 Axe Thrower + Balanced
Vista's Burst swings ATK and DEF in Kalthas's favour, and Calm Before the Storm protects him through his weak first 5 seconds.
Wukong + Selena 82/100 Cavalry + Cavalry
Selena adds Cavalry ATK, HP, healing and +30% damage to Blackforged: the best Cavalry hunting pair.
Freyja + Kalthas 75/100 Beast Rider + Axe Thrower
Kalthas's skills ignore troop type, so his DEF shred works in a Beast Rider march while Freyja's Rose Ward keeps the troop alive.
Karl + Petra 72/100 Berserker + Berserker
Petra's Blood Resonance names Karl: together her bonus damage to debuffed enemies triples to 30% and Berserkers take 10% less damage. Karl's Fire & Brimstone applies the HP Reduction that switches it on.
Karl + Ganglot 63/100 Berserker + Berserker
Ganglot's Merciless Pursuit needs targets with HP Reduction, which Karl's Burst applies. Needs Ganglot at 2+ stars.
Sara + Vista 62/100 Balanced + Balanced
Sara grows the rally and debuffs up to 5 defenders; Vista protects the leader and swings ATK and DEF.
Erin + Selena 56/100 Cavalry + Cavalry
Selena's Engineered Revival names Erin: with Erin in the troop healing received rises by 15%, and both heroes speed up Bursts with rage.
Role-locked skills
| Skill | Works only when | Hero |
|---|---|---|
| Armor Piercer (50% DEF ignore) | He commands an all-Axe Thrower troop | Odysseus |
| Shadow Oath (+6% commander Burst) | She is the lieutenant | Vista |
| Saint's Resolve (+35% Burst) | The other hero is male | Joan |
| Blood Resonance (x3 bonus) | Karl is in the troop | Petra |
| Engineered Revival (+15% healing) | Erin is in the troop | Selena |
Pairing mistakes
- Odysseus as lieutenant: Armor Piercer turns off.
- Vista as commander: Shadow Oath turns off.
- Summoners in rallies or garrisons: Wukong's clones and Sylvan's wolves don't fight there.
- Aelfwine beside heroes that barely heal: his value scales with healing.
- Petra without Karl: Blood Resonance drops to a third.
Questions players ask
What is a coded synergy in Fate War?
A skill whose text names another hero. Petra's Blood Resonance is stronger with Karl, Selena's Engineered Revival with Erin, and Joan's Saint's Resolve boosts any male hero.
Can I mix troop types in one march?
You can, but many skills buff only one troop type or need an all-one-type troop, so mixing usually switches bonuses off.
