Fate War hero guide
Which heroes matter for each troop type, which are specialists, and how to choose a core you will keep for the whole game.

How heroes work
Heroes lead your marches, two per march (a commander and a lieutenant). Each hero has:
- A troop type: Berserker, Axe Thrower, Cavalry, Beast Rider, or Balanced for heroes who fit any troop.
- Rank: S, A or B, which is their rarity.
- Up to five skills: a Burst, three passives that unlock at 2, 3 and 4 stars, and an awakened skill for S-rank heroes.
- Three talent trees, for example Axe Thrower, Hunter and Attack for Kalthas.
Heroes by troop type
Axe Throwers
The strongest damage line. Odysseus is the commander, and Kalthas, Roro and Kaira stack DEF cuts and debuffs behind him. Morgan le Fay is best when there are several enemy troops close together.
Cavalry
Wukong and Aska are the core. Selena is the Blackforged specialist, while Reynald and Erin are solid lieutenants.
Berserkers
Built around Karl's HP Reduction, which Petra and Ganglot exploit. Rex is a garrison tank, and Baldur is a hunter.
Beast Riders
Freyja commands. Iris is a garrison healer, and Kiana deals damage based on enemy HP. Only one Beast Rider march can be on the map at a time.
Balanced
These heroes fit any troop:
- Joan and Vista are the best lieutenants in the game.
- Aelfwine is pure sustain.
- Sara, Arthur and Amaterasu lead rallies.
- Yi Sun-sin holds the Wall.

Choosing your core
- Decide which troop types you will run. Most players field all four, but only one Beast Rider march can be out at a time.
- Pick the commander for each type from the meta pairs.
- Fill the lieutenant slots, using Balanced heroes where you lack the ideal partner.
- Star the core before levelling anyone else; stars unlock skills.

What do hero ranks mean?
Rank (S, A, B) is rarity. S- and A-rank heroes have five skills, including an awakened skill; B-rank heroes such as Elia stop at four.
